Ricky says it was his wife Ivy, Branch Manager and Licensed Mortgage Advisor at Angel Oak Home Loans, who got him into real estate in 2016 after his service in the U.S. Army and as a first responder.

Now a full time realtor, Ricky is with Sherman & Hemstreet and was recently named to the Top 20 Under 40 list for Effingham County.

Ivy, from a multi-generational Savannah family, has 20 years lending experience. She is honored to have been chosen as the “Most Fab” Mortgage Lender in Effingham County 2020 and Best Mortgage Lender in 2020—Best of The Coastal Empire. She also was just named a winner in the 2020 Angel Oak Presidents Club.

Teamwork

“Ivy does the pre-qualification; I do the real estate. We strictly adhere to the ethical guidelines and pre-disclose to our clients who then give us permission to work together and discuss their home buying. Being a team makes it far more convenient for the client,” says Ricky.

Both agree the client’s first step in the home buying process is to get prequalified for a mortgage. Ivy says there is a big advantage to working with a mortgage lender.

“We have the experience you won’t find at online companies. Sometimes the online mortgage companies just say yes without actually doing the work and when a buyer goes to purchase the deal falls through very quickly. At Angel Oak, we take it personally and handle the home loan carefully.”

Once a client chooses a home, Ricky says “My job is to achieve what’s best for the client. I will always work to get you the best deal because I don’t just accept no as an answer.”

As an added advantage, Ricky is a Certified Military Relocation Specialist. “I am able to use my military background to help military families through the home buying process.”

Ivy says her team works with VA, FHA, USDA, Conventional, Jumbo and even has in-house loan programs.

Communication is Key

Ivy says “We are hands-on throughout the whole process. We get back to you via text, email, or phone call. And we close on time, currently our closing turnaround time is three weeks.” 

In addition to experienced buyers and sellers, they both say they genuinely enjoy working with first time home buyers, especially families.

“I really love it when we are able to help a client close on their home when they have been told ‘no way’ elsewhere,” says Ivy.

Ricky says, “In the end I want to see all my clients safely planted in their new home.”

They reside in Guyton with their children Caden, Grace and Cody. Ivy is an accomplished singer and songwriter and they both enjoy entertaining, gathering with friends, and playing guitar around a fire.
