There are plenty of sweet treats to be found at Sweet Treats Cannery! Wendy and Eric Gambino have traveled across the Southeast visiting farms in eight states to select the best fruit for their selection of jams, jellies and pie fillings. Wendy has created 32 varieties of pie filling over the years, and her personal favorite is the strawberry rhubarb.

“We take pride in our signature pie fillings,” Wendy says. “We make it easy so that it can just be poured into a crust, thrown in your oven and have a fresh baked pie like it came off the tree.”

Wendy grew up with canning as a way of life, preserving seasonal fruits and vegetables from peak season to enjoy year-round. She went on to pursue a degree in culinary arts and started her business with a cottage license 12 years ago. In May 2021, Wendy and Eric opened a brick-and-mortar location in Springfield, where most of their products are made.

In addition to selling their goods in-store, they have traveled to more than 70 markets and festivals this year to share their products with a wider audience. Customers are enticed by free samples and recipes, and Wendy recently held a contest for bakers to showcase the versatility of her pie fillings.

More than 30 people entered the contest, where they were challenged to create a non-pie recipe that used a Sweet Treats Cannery pie filling of their choice. The winner received a $100 gift card to Sweet Treats Cannery to fuel their culinary passions.

Community support has been crucial to the success of Sweet Treats Cannery. Wendy has partnered with local FFA groups, 4-H groups, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts to show young people the possibilities of a career combining the agriculture and culinary fields. 

Sweet Treats Cannery also offers a selection of family-size desserts that can be preordered during the holiday season. Simply choose your crust style and filling and you can have a customized 9-inch pie ready for pick-up! Order by December 20 to have an extra-special dessert for Christmas.

A pie filling from Sweet Treats Cannery has more uses than just baking a delicious pie. Some cherry pie filling added to brownies or some blueberry lavender pie filling added to a cheesecake elevates desserts to a new level. Wendy recommends her Caramel Apple Pie Filling combined with a pound cake recipe to satisfy your sweet tooth.
