Habitat for Humanity of Effingham County Collecting Aluminum for Recycling Drive

Habitat for Humanity of Effingham County Collecting Aluminum for Recycling Drive

An aluminum can takes on new life when it is recycled – something that can be done almost infinitely. Recycling aluminum with Habitat for Humanity of Effingham County generates funding that goes directly into the expenses that come with building and rehabilitating homes in the community.

Each year, Habitat for Humanity of Effingham County collects aluminum cans as part of an initiative from Habitat for Humanity International and Novelis, a multinational producer of aluminum products and the nation’s largest recycler of aluminum cans.

For participating in the program, each affiliate receives a $2,500 grant on top of the proceeds generated from the sale of the aluminum. During the previous grant funding cycle, our local affiliate collected more than 1,900 pounds of aluminum!

Habitat for Humanity of Effingham County President/CEO Jimmy Rutland encourages local businesses, schools, civic organizations and places of worship to start their own aluminum can drives to add to Habitat’s total collections.

“Every can counts toward our mission of bringing people together to build homes, community and hope,” Rutland says.

Cans should be dropped off at the bin outside the Habitat for Humanity offices and ReStore at 3605 Highway 21 S. in Rincon. All aluminum delivered there will be counted for the Effingham County affiliate’s total collections. This collection drive runs from April-October, but aluminum cans can be accepted there year-round.

Habitat for Humanity of Effingham County will also be attending the Effingham County Earth Day Festival in Guyton on April 25. Stop by to learn how you can support their recycling efforts and contribute to a circular economy by donating to and shopping at the ReStore

Visit habitatec.org for more information about the local affiliate.
