Reception & Talk: Venice and the Ottoman Empire
Join three historians for perspectives on the exhibition Venice and the Ottoman Empire.

The program will be led by Dr. Robert Batchelor, Professor of History, Director of Digital Humanities, and Department Chair of History at Georgia Southern University. Dr. Batchelor is a specialist in maritime trade and cartography. He is known for his discovery of the Selden Map of China, a treasure of the Bodleian Library, as the earliest known map of Chinese trade routes. He is the author of the book London: The Selden Map and the Making of a Global City, 1549-1689. Joining Dr. Batchelor are Dr. Ahmet Akturk, and Dr. Kathleen Comerford. Dr. Ahmet Akturk is a late Ottoman empire specialist and Associate Professor of History at Georgia Southern. His teaching and research areas include the modern Middle East, Islamic civilization, and world history since 1500. Dr. Kathleen Comerford is a Professor of History and Pre-Law Advisor, whose areas of specialty and teaching include the Reformation, Renaissance, and European religion.
